Interior of Nova Iskra awarded at the 37th Salon of Architecture

At the 37th Salon of Architecture in Belgrade, studio Petokraka won the award in the Interior category for the project of the interior of Nova Iskra Design Incubator. During the selection and evaluation of the nominated works, the jury was guided by the theme of this year’s Salon of Architecture – Affirmation – as a confirmation of the contribution to a new, positive approach to contemporary architectural practice as well as the place, role and relationship of architecture within the current social context.

In the Interior category, the jury awarded studio Petokraka – the architects Aleksa Bjelović and Milica Maksimović – for the interior of the Design incubator Nova Iskra (implementation period 2012-2014), having in mind the recognition of the interdependence of the creative industries and communities in an architectural space.

According to the jury’s official statement, with the realization of the Nova Iskra’s interior the architectural studio made a spatial and programmatic act as “a way of projecting and redistributing a common space”. In the official statement, the jury also mentions: What this multifunctional workspace determines are the program settings, and thus established relation between individuals and the objects of work. The elements of the interior are in such an arrangement to create a simple framework for the development of the users’ intentions, instead of a purely decorative determination. The created space thus becomes more an infrastructure that enables than a structure that determines. Finally, the spatial determinations are invisible and nonexistent barriers in establishing a network of relationships and creative products that those relationships are creating.

Petokraka is a studio for spatial and graphic design from Belgrade, founded by architects Aleksa Bijelović and Milica Maksimović. They explore and create spaces and forms that offer new interpretations and ways of use. Since 2004, studio Petokraka works in the fields of the design of spatial installations and exhibitions, architecture and graphic design. After the realization of the reconstruction by Petokraka, the worksapce of Nova Iskra was publicized in numerous architecture, interior decoration and design magazines such as Domus, ArchDailyGestalten orDesign Milk. The space was conceptualized as a constant scenography for shared work, exchange of experiences, personal development, meetings, inspiration, collaboration and the creation of a specific community of creative people.

At the 37th Salon of Architecture the jury included 127 projects in the official selection, out of which 83 were in competition for prizes in six categories. Another member of Nova Iskra’s Creative Hub network was awarded – the studio AUTORI won the award in the category Architecture for objects “C” and “D” of the Terra Panonica complex in Mokrin.
