Food is culture: Nominate your local food products to the Arc of taste catalog and save them from oblivion

The competition for European citizens starts today

Food is culture project is starting a new challenge: After the contest for chefs and elementary school students, comes an opportunity for all European citizens to actively participate in this contest. From today to March 15th 2020, anyone can nominate a unique food product from their local gastronomic traditions to become a part of Ark of Taste. This initiative of the Slow Food organization, a catalog of products threatened with extinction and that are a part of the culture, history and tradition of the entire world, currently has over 5,000 entries. The Ark of Taste catalog was created to point out the existence of these products and draw attention to the risk that they might disappear within a few generations.

The rules of participation are very simple, just click the following link (https://www.fondazioneslowfood.com/en/what-we-do/the-ark-of-taste/nominations-from-around-the-world/nominate-a-product/) and provide as much information as possible about the product that you are applying for: its name, how it is used in the kitchen, how it is related to the local culture and history and the characteristics that make it unique. At the end of the competition, the jury will select one exceptional product to exhibit at the international exhibition Food is Culture, dedicated to the Treasury of taste and biodiversity protection. The exhibition had its first appearance in Stockholm, and was staged in Belgrade from October 11 to 27, after which it will travel to European museums. The competition winner will have the opportunity to spend a weekend in Lange and Roero in the northern Italian region of Piedmont.

The Food is Culture project aims to make European citizens aware that food heritage is a means of expressing their belonging to Europe and better understanding the wealth and uniqueness of Europe’s cultural diversity. We must pay more attention to safeguarding and promoting our shared food heritage.

Food is Culture is a project funded by the European program Creative Europe, with the contribution of the Fondazione CRC di Cuneo, led by Slow Food with its partners Kinookus, Europa Nostra, Nova Iskra Creative Hub, Transpond AB. The Belgrade exhibition was supported by the Ministry of culture and information in Serbia.
