The first online youth camp within the Youth Media Hub project was realized under the slogan “Learn, Collaborate, Create!”

After successfully completing the first module of the Youth Media Hub project, as part of the international regional programme “Dialogue for the Future”, on the last weekend of September Nova Iskra, in collaboration with Intera organization from Mostar, organized the first two-day online youth camp.

So far, the project gathered numerous experts active in the field of classic and online media, digital literacy and activism. Over 70 participants completed the media and digital literacy course, led by Jovana Gligorijević, Milena Popović, Uroš Krčadinac, Višnja Kisić and Goran Tomka, Tamara Skrozza, Bojan Perkov.

Participants of this camp were young people who previously passed the course organized within the first module of the project. Within the first online camp all participants had the opportunity to learn about the relationship between communications, media and storytelling, as well as how to choose and recognize relevant topics in their wider communities, but also how to create online content. These two-day gatherings were reserved for meetings between the young people from both countries, while creating the teams who will work together on the basic idea formulation. The teams are going to work together on defined topics and challenges, especially during the second online camp in October.

During these two days they have additionally learned about the team culture, presentational skills, PR, and other topics that will help them in the next step – creating media content on their own.

In the two-day online camp, the lecturers were Lazar Džamić (Faculty of Media and Communications) and Dejan Ilić (Fabrika knjiga), as well as those whose podcasts, projects and blogs we enjoy. Participants had the opportunity to gain insight in practical experiences of Galeb Nikačević and Marka Žvaka duo – Dušan Šaponja and Dušan Čavić, through presentations and dialogue.

Every lecturer approaches the subject in inspiring and interested way for young people, so Lazar Džamić shared useful knowledge about stories in modern media, while Dušan Šaponja and Dušan Čavić, who are standing behind The Marka Žvaka project, looked back on their own experience in choosing socially relevant topics, pointing that there is no such thing as boring topic, only that matter is how we tell the story. Galeb Nikačević talked about creating successful content, and at the end of the online camp the participants met the mentors Dejan Ilić and Goran Karanović, who will lead them during the second camp and help them create and place the content.

The project is realized within the joint regional programme Dialogue for the Future (DFF), led by UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO, and funded by UN PBF.
