About the panel

Zajedničko.org was formed as a result of the specially designed educational program of Nova Iskra under the name of the Studies of Commons. Nova Iskra together with the Ministry of Space, Mladi za Kaluđericu association, Polekol political ecology organization and Green youth, as well as many individuals is launching zajedničko.org – A network for the theory and practice of common goods.

The first open event of the zajednicko.org network entitled ‘’Public discussion: Yugoslavia culture politics: commons before commons’’ will be held on November 10th at 7 PM. The participants of the panel Branislav Dimitrijević, art historian and theoretician of culture, Danilo Prnjat, artist, and Marijana Cvetković, producer and curator, will talk about Yugoslav cultural policies. They will present several examples of the implementation of these policies which are considered important references to what is happening today in the field of culture, cultural policies and social relations.

Social ownership was, along with with self-management, a key concept of Yugoslav socialism. As such, he should have been promptly and permanently dismantled and demonized, as witnessed since the 80s and in the final breakthrough of the capitalist mode of production and distribution in Yugoslavia.

In order to understand the consequences of these processes in the field of culture today and the frustrating division among cultural workers, as well as the destruction of every kind of public spheres in the still public cultural institutions, it is necessary to recall how Yugoslav cultural policies treated the issue of social property, the common and equality in accessing social, shared resources.

In the context of contemporary reflection on the concept of commons, we also want to recall the Yugoslav social and cultural practice of the common and social, and thus reconstruct the experience of our society from several decades ago, showing its political value and relevance.

The panel is held in one of Magacin’s premises in Kraljevića Marka, one of the few spaces that function on the principles of joint decision-making, disposing, openness and free use of all resources and programs.
