Jelena Simić

Dr Jelena Simić is an Assistant Research Professor at the Group for Eco-Biotechnology and Drug Development of the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), University of Belgrade. She is a chemist by Bachelor and Master training, but she obtained her PhD at the doctoral study programme ‘Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology’ in Slovenia, thus expanding her interest in microorganisms and their incredible metabolic pathways. Jelena’s research interests include biopigmemts, natural products from bacteria, and bio-medicinal chemistry. Jelena is a collaborator on several international and national projects focused on the „waste to value” principle. Additionally, she coordinates many dissemination activities and social media channels, with emphasis on science communication and promotion, especially among the younger population, and she was a participant in several Art & Science projects.
