What is it about?

How does yarn transform into a relief-like, tactile image?
In this workshop, we will explore the playful and experimental side of tufting – from working with the tufting gun, to punch needle techniques, to carving and shaping different heights and textures.

Register here.

Who is it for?

No prior experience required – just curiosity and the willingness to explore.

What's in it for me?

At the end, everyone will come together to complete one large collaborative piece – a mosaic that unites different styles, hands, and ideas.

This is not just a “try the gun” workshop – it’s an opportunity to discover what tufting can really be: to ask questions (there are no stupid ones!), to see how texture and material transform the feel and look of a piece, and to experience a collective, tactile process of making.

How will I learn

Working in small groups, participants will rotate through several stations and try out:

  • tufting gun (short and long pile)
  • carving and shaping (scissors and trimmer)
  • punch needle technique
  • different materials (wool, acrylic, cotton, mohair)

Textile artist

Marijana Janković aka NIGHTMARA is a self-taught textile artist and has a degree in German literature and worked in translation as well as in journalism before moving into art. Her carpets, handmade in wool, and exploring pop culture in general as well as dreams and visions, strike by the tension between their often apparent comical motifs and the actual hard, patient work that is needed to produce them. This combination of fun and craft is in tune with our Zeitgeist, enhanced by pandemic-induced homebound melancholy and boredom.
With Laufer Gallery from Zürich, she has participated in Bienvenue ArtFair in Paris, had a solo show in Zürich, and a solo in Belgrade, Serbia.
Recent shows include: group show at Galerie Fran Reus in Palma, Mallorca; online show at The Curators, Paris/NY; group show at BIEN Textile Art Biennale in Kranj, Slovenia.
